Menus can have a vertical layout or a horizontal layout. Vertical menus can be located on the left side of a web page, right side of a web page, or both.
Horizontal menus can be located at the top of a web page, the bottom of a web page, or both.
A web page may use both horizontal and vertical menus at the time, as is found on this web page.
The purpose of menu is to site navigation easier for the user. It is common to have a menu with the same entries (links) in two places on a web page. The most typical is a vertical menu on the left side and a horizontal menu at the bottom.
- For example, There is a main menu on the left and a secondary menu at the bottom of the page. The secondary menu, found on all pages, helps with site navigation because less mouse movement is needed to to access the menu to go another web page on the website.
Menu buttons can be flat, raised, or can be tabs. Menus can be placed on the background of a web page or can be placed within an image (like a frame or drawn shape, as on this page).
Tabbed menus can look and behave like file folders. The active tab will be highlighted to identify the page that is displayed.
Menu Styles include:
- Tabbed menus.
- Horizontal menus.
